SIPA BRINGS SPARKLING IDEAS TO THE WINE MARKET
Wine producers today are affected by numerous variables that can impact their profits, but this year there’s a new obstacle to overcome, due to soaring energy and raw material costs: finding glass bottles.
The wine sector represents approximately 45% of the glass bottle market; among these, sparkling wine bottles require over 50%.
To solve this problem, SIPA presents the world’s first PET bottle for sparkling wine.
The company’s Packaging Development Team has developed the perfect product, capable of being filled on existing traditional filling lines, demonstrating perfect interchangeability with glass versions.
A key part of SIPA’s innovation lies in the bottle neck, which can be closed with the classic mushroom cork complete with wire cage. This unique bottle design, with the same appearance and functionality as the original, offers a higher load resistance of 3500 N.
From a consumer perspective, the user will enjoy an unchanged experience from opening the bottle to pouring a glass, but the difference in weight is tangible: the PET versions are lighter, weighing only 90 grams compared to the average weight of a glass bottle for sparkling wine of 720–750 grams.
Another advantage of PET is its shatterproof nature, which significantly impacts supply logistics, as e-commerce sales and home deliveries continue to rise.
Furthermore, this drastic reduction in bottle weight can certainly have a positive impact on CO2 emissions, thanks to more efficient logistics and a production method that is equally less impactful on the environment.
